2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bullock County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Bullock County finished seventh in Class 4A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Hornets won as many games as in any season since 2000. The Hornets have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Hornets have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The Hornets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the Bullock County football program has struggled with a record of 6-64. Over the past 25 seasons, Bullock County has not won much with a record of 39-208. Their 16.0% winning percentage ranks 59th in Class 4A and 378th in the AHSAA. The Hornets have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 1997. The Hornets are led by head coach Heath Laney who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-16 over the past two seasons at Bullock County. The Hornets have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Laney. Coach Laney's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 4-16 (20.0%). The Bullock County Hornets will play in Class 4A region two during the 2017 season. This season, the Hornets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Hornets open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Hayneville on Friday, September 1 at Sellers Stadium. Last year the Central Hayneville Lions finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 2A region three. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Keith by a score of 50-26. Bullock County and Central Hayneville have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 14-5-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Bullock County winning by a score of 44-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
